Hi
I'm being using mailscanner for years, but considering cpanel has added a bunch of few new features, is still MailScanner the best option?
I'm asking because I'm configuring a new box, and remembering what have to do to install MailSacanner and tempted to test the cpanel options (clamavconector, spamd ...)
I went to cpanel forums and couldn't find any recent post regarding the advantages/disadvantages of MailSacanner, so, came here with The Experts .
Thanks in advance for any info regarding this

Is still MailScanner the best option on a cPAnel server
Re: Is still MailScanner the best option on a cPAnel server
Hi ikaruz,
I manage cPanel server since 2003 and only once I've decided not to use MailScanner and paid the price for it.. Many complaints from my customers and had to manage spam filters around the clock. A nightmare if you ask me.
At this time, I have for example a single server with MailScanner and around 30 cPanel accounts and never had a complaint from users receiving spams in their inbox. I always take a look at least twice a day to the MailWatch interface but never had a problem.
I really tested MailScanner in 2007 on a server which had 2200 cPanel accounts (a reseller server) and MailScanner was just blazing fast as usuall. No need to tweak anything.
We're talking about peace of mind when it come to MailScanner. ConfigServer are expert when it comes to exim.

An honest appraisal. With very tight controls, I don't know of any better native solution for cPanel; without it, the spam load is much, much higher however you finagle with Exim and whitelists/blacklists.
You might fare a tad better with a third-party hosted email service, but that's a monthly fee for each email address. Is it worth it? Maybe you'll save a few missed junk mails each day, but that should be reasonably tolerable.
There are things I'd like to see in MailScanner, such as automatic learning of messages moved to the Junk/Spam folder without special configuration. But mail services who promise that feature don't always deliver so well.
Peace,
Gene
