MOST legal documents use multiple periods in filename and are getting stopped as virus'

Post by hotwired »

Good Morning

there is a default setting in MailScanner which is brutally restrictive, though understandable in its intentions. Any document (or file in general) that has TWO or more "periods" (example document.version2.pdf) is stopped automatically as being a virus (often scammers will disguise executables by appending them with an innocent file extension, such as document.exe.pdf). Unfortunately an overwhelming percentage of profoundly important and time sensitive legal documents are appended this way, usually to clearly dilineate dates, versions, etc.

I've Googled this but can't seem to articulate it in such a way as to get a meaningful result. I'm sure it's simple but I need to eliminate this rule or at least append it to something a bit less zealous.

Thank you in advance!
