Once an hour the load on one of our servers spikes big time. Normal load is barely above zero, but it spikes to loads over 100.0 for a minute or two then comes back down to normal.

When it spikes I always see these: processes, with the first one causing the load:

lfd - retrieving global lists
lfd - retrieving blocklists (waiting for list lock)
lfd - retrieving countrycode lists (waiting for list lock)

This server is running Centos 7 on an 8 core (Xeon E5-1620) server with 64 GB RAM. It is NOT a cPanel server. Several other (similar) servers that ARE running cPanel fetch the exact same global lists and never spike like this.

Any thoughts?

I wonder what's going on at the same time in /var/log/messages ?

Nothing unusual that I can see in /var/log/messages or dmesg

I have exactly the same issue, only blocked these two countries RU,CN
