TUTORIAL: How to enable and test ICQ notification in WHM?
Posted: 30 Jun 2015, 10:53
I doubt AIM notification is functioning in WHM (I didn't test this feature fully anyway) but ICQ notification is still working as on 30 Jun 2015.
This article shows you how ICQ notification can be turned on and tested if you are using cPanel/WHM with ConfigServer Security & Firewall installed.
First, let's prepare for testing. You need this later.
TESTING SETUP
==================
1) WHM >> Server Configuration >> Basic cPanel & WHM Setup, enter your ICQ UIN (It should be your ICQ identity NUMBER and not your username or email address) at "The ICQ ID that this server should use for login to ICQ when sending alerts.....".
2) Download ICQ app into your smartphone. For your info, I tested mine under iPhone 6 running iOS8. After activating ICQ in your smartphone, make sure you link your UIN to the app. Click on your avatar. You will see your UIN stated there.
3) Go to WHM >> Server Contacts >> Contact Manager, at the top part titled "Alert Contact Priority Assignment", set radio button of ICQ to HIGH. At the lower part titled "Alert Priority Assignment", set both radio buttons for "Account Creation" and "Account Removal" to HIGH for testing purposes. You can change it later if you like.
ALLOW ICQ IN FIREWALL
==================
1) Allow port 5190 in TCP_IN and TCP_OUT. Click "CHANGE" and restart csf+lfd.
TESTING
==================
1) Go to WHM >> Account Functions >> Create a New Account, create a gimmick account.
2) Go to WHM >> Account Functions >> Terminate an Account, terminate the account that you have just created above.
If it is working, you should be getting two notifications in your ICQ app. I would say that the ICQ notification is very unstable. Sometimes I get the notification but sometimes I don't.
