Just a quick note that it looks like when the new wildcard functionality was added the example regex in regex.custom.pm is missing a secondary starting opening bracket ( so it might cause some people some problems.

Thanks for that. We'll correct it in the next release.

Wouldn't that overwrite custom made rules?

This has now been address on v6.44, it only applies to new installs and does not affect existing regex.custom.pm files:
