Emails getting stuck

Hi there,

your company did the "Mailscanner configuration" on all our servers. This is great, he gets most of the SPAM.

We use QuadCore servers, with 8GB RAM, and have a maximum of 300 accounts by server.

All servers have a similar workload.

One of the servers, in the last 3 weeks, is getting a load a little bit higher (around 8) and memory usage between 1 and 2 GB.

Always, we have on top this processes:

29693 mailnull 25 0 93840 75m 2520 R 99.5 0.9 0:05.37 MailScanner: checking with SpamAssassin
29799 mailnull 17 0 91148 71m 2120 R 12.1 0.9 0:00.09 MailScanner: checking with SpamAssassin

And emails stop beeing delivered, getting stucked in queue. We need to restart exim, restart MailScanner, force queue... and delete mannually a lot of emails (clear SPAM mails).

Is there any way of optimize this? My understanding is that server stop delivering emails, because MailScanner can't get everything... but, theres is a lot of CPU and Memory available, why not use it?

I try a lot of tweaks to improve performance, but with no luck.

This is only happening in one server.

Thanks for all the help.
Regards

Hi,

thanks for your replys.

Sarah, i think i have everything ok... this problem is getting worst everyday.

Is there any limitation on the configuration that you do on the MailScanner package, that stop delivering emails with certain load number?

I really can't understand this delay in email delivering...

any advice?

Tks!

No, MailScanner does not have any limits with regard to server load or anything else. You may have a load limit in exim but it is not something we would have configured in our install. You did not specify whether the emails are getting stuck in the MailScanner (Pending) queue or the Exim (delivery) queue.

Sarah
