Clamav and File Manager

The Cpanel File Manager has a WYSISYG editor. But when clients try to use it now they get a file not found error (the file is clearly there). Cpanle support says this is caused by the install of Clamav. Their reccomendations:

"What is probably happening is clamav is interfering. You seem to have a manually installed version of Clamav running, which is known to do this at times.

What you can do is:

1. Remove your clamav installation

2. Go to WHM | Manage Plugins and install the Pro plugin, and then Clamav. This will allow cpanel to manage clamav for you and keep it from doing things like this."

Does this make sense? I don't want to break MailScanner's use of clamav by doing this.

I was not able to recreate this problem in file manager on our servers so I assume it happens only under certain server conditions.

If you enable clamavconnector in Manage Plugins, it will break MailScanner (not just clamav). The cPanel file manager editor should detect that the installed clamav is not the cPanel clamavconnector. They need to fix that.

If you are unable to resolve the problem with cPanel and must have the file editor, you will need to remove clamav.

Thanks, Sarah. I was afraid of that, and don't want to remove clamav and break MailScanner. I'm not convinced this is the problem. But I guess I will have to test it by temporarily disabling clamav and then testing the file manager, which, btw, worked fine before. I don't know what's changed on the system to break it.

As this is a cPanel issue and not an issue with our MailScanner Front-End or MailScanner installation, it's not something we're working on. It's an issue with how cPanel's file manager detects clamav.
