Ham vs spam

Post by jbourque »

Can anyone explain if I mark something as HAM then it is valid email?

What is the differences between HAM and SPAM?

Sorry for the dumb question but want to make sure I am doing this correctly?

Also what do most folks set there low scoring number to?

Thanks
Joe

Hi Joe,

Ham is email that is not spam, in other words legitimate mail, whether personal or business. If you go into MailWatch and mark an email as Ham, you are telling SpamAssassin that the mail is not a spam. Normally you would only do this if SpamAssassin/MailScanner marked the mail as spam and you want to teach SA that it was NOT spam. Conversely, if MailScanner did not mark an email as spam, you might want to tell it that that email was spam and not ham.

A little more information about this can be found here:

Sarah
