CSF - Understanding alert email

Post by spankymcgee »

CSF, great product, thanks.

I need clarification about the error message I am receiving for a particular client.
dovecot_plain authenticator failed for ([10.242.59.0]) [xx.xxx.xxx.xx]:51008: 535 Incorrect authentication data (set_id=xxxxx@xxxx.xxx.xx)

The xx ip address I know is their office IP address, however the IP address 10.242.59.0 I don't recognise, Google search sees it as a private address.
What does the first ip address represent?

All the computers connected to a LAN gets an IP to identify each one.

So, a PRIVATE ADDRESS belongs to the network created at the office or house.

On your example, on that place they are using the RANGE 10.242.59.X and the x could be from 0-255.

So, if you want to know what computer is not well configured, you can go to your LAN and find the user connected at 10.242.59.0 and fix the password for the account xxxxx@xxxx.xxx.xxx

Sergio
