Update overrides all my custom rules

I took the editing access from the rules files to the root user and even then, when I update msfe, all my rules are lost and I need to do them all again.

How can I avoid this?

If you read MSFE readme file, it says that you have to save your rules at /etc/mail/spamassassin/ directory.
