Just got lost

Did the upgrade to mailscanner per instructions, started upgrading to clamav per instructions until I got to here:

replace "Example" "#Example" -- /usr/local/etc/freshclam.conf
replace "Example" "#Example" -- /usr/local/etc/clamd.conf

I believe I was to edit the conf files and replace them at mention, correct? If so, the next instruction says to run freshclam, did and got this error:

ERROR: Parse error at line 9: Unknown option /usr/local/etc/freshclam.conf.
ERROR: Parse error at line 8: Unknown option /usr/local/etc/clamd.conf.
ERROR: Can't parse the config file /usr/local/etc/clamd.conf

Edit: I just commented out #/usr/local/etc/freshclam.conf and ran freshclam and it worked. Any reason why?

Those replace lines are actual shell commands and that's all you need to run.
