I use Bayes filtering with Mailwatch and are very pleased with the results. Little gets through but spammers are cleaver.

I sometimes use the blacklist in MailScanner Frontend to block specific hosts such as *@baddomain. However many spammers use spam@sub.sub.sub.domain and it isn't feasible to list all their hosts in the blacklist. Is there a way to block *@*.domain so to speak in Mailscanner...

for some reason I found our mailscanner to have issues with gmail.com:

exim -bt user@gmail.com
user@gmail.com cannot be resolved at this time: All deliveries are handled by MailScanner

Also all emails sent from gmail to our server receive a 550 sender verify failed. This issue gets resolved when disabling mailscanner. What could be the cause of this?

Hello guys, I have a problem that has generated an error message in the log /var/log/maillog

plugin: eval failed: bayes: (in learn) locker: safe_lock: cannot create lockfile /var/spool/mqueue/.spamassassin/bayes.mutex: Permission denied

anyone out there know how to fix this? I've tried permissions 0777 but did not work.

I tried to send a spam report using Mailwatch but received the following error:

Is there a way we can prevent local users on a hosted domain from scanning all together?

We have users that cannot email each other in the same domain without being picked up in the mailscanner. At the same time if i whitelist there domain, this allows spoofed emails from outside to come into our system without scanning.

I am trying to edit SA rules but I am little confused. I found their two location in my server.
1st. location: /var/lib/spamassassin
2nd. loc.: /usr/share/spamassassin

How can I find which of them use SA, or maybe SA use them both?

I've been quarantining a copy of all mail and manually retraining the spam filter but I've noticed that only 7 days of quarantine is kept. When clients try to add email addresses to their Whitelist, It looks like it works, but when they check, the entry it not there, and it still says Maximum Entries: 0/30

I'm going through trying to add all the stuff in the FAQs to TRY to make this massive flood of spam that has been kicking my butt to slow down. anytime I have to do a command that includes sa-update I get a kicked back error that the command is not found. What do I need to do?

I have MailScanner Front-End and all the accoutrements installed on a cPanel/WHM server.

Everything is, so far as I can tell, configured correctly.

How do I keep the system from removing my custom spam.whitelist.rules?

I received an email with Subject: cPanel -> MailScanner Report

It included a bunch of lines like this:

foreign-domain-name removed from spam.whitelist.rules

The foreign-domain-name was a custom whitelist rule that I had added before I switched to cPanel:

From: yyyyy@foreign-domain-name and To: aaaaa@local-domain-name yes...

I have had Mailscanner installed for about a month now and during the last week have encountered a issue. All inbound and outbound mail stops flowing and it seems to happen every day about the same time in the morning. If I use the mailscanner restart function on the interface the mail starts flowing again until the next morning and then stops again about the same time.

today mailscanner started to do a lot of rare things, it started to left emails on its queue without checking them, so, I started to check on it following instructions on:

The weird thing is that there was no errors at all on maillog:

We are starting to see a large amount of data in:

/var/spool/MailScanner/incoming

... which is eating up valuable space in /var

Question - Can I just move the /incoming directory to /home, and then symlink it from /var/spool/MailScanner/ ?

When Mailscanner disarms incoming Amazon messages, the email is unintelligible. Is it possible to disable disarming for one particular sender email domain?

Just updated to the latest versions via the front end and now spam is getting through. Anyone else encounter this? Status and logs look fine but it appears it is no longer assigning scores when it should.

Because MailScanner seems to be letting more and more spam through, I'd like to train it, but the only method of training I'm aware of is painfully primitively slow: Going to MailWatch, hitting message operations and clicking one box at a time, having to wait 60 seconds for that one screen of trained messages to go through, then going back, going to next page, doing over.

Taking a look around I saw @ mailwatch that a few accounts are sending spam.
